Our timber and alu-clad windows use timber from managed forests with Full Chain of Custody certified to FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®), and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest).
We also offer Fire Door set products to meet either FSC or PEFC timber sustainability standards.
The sustainable raw material timber we put in is the same sustainable timber as in the finished product. No materials are introduced or substituted in the manufacturing process – this is known as a Full Chain of Custody.
We’re in the process of reviewing our Net Zero strategy and aligning our roadmap with the Scottish Government target for 2045.
We are working closely with Scottish Engineering to plot out significant, measurable, and achievable milestones on our way to Net Zero.
We have a workforce education plan around sustainability and carbon reduction, which includes our Green Team, who liaise with the wider business and the board of directors to ensure that our green plan and sustainability aims are considered in our business every day.
To protect exterior timber products from the elements, RTT uses a complete coating system from preservative to base coat to top coat.
Coatings are environmentally friendly, water-based formulations with low odour and no solvents. Paints are applied using electrostatic wraparound robotic technology, giving optimum protection whilst reducing waste.
All RTT products are delivered to site fully finished, meaning that site waste is kept to a minimum.
Timber is readily recycled and bio-degradable, making it an ideal alternative fuel. 97% of our timber waste is recycled and the remaining 3% is used for energy heating fuel.
We’re committed to a reduction of energy consumption and minimising haulage emissions.
Deliveries are coordinated so products are transported vertically, ensuring all trailers are fully loaded and returning lorries are loaded for maximum utilisation. Our lorries comply with the latest Euro emissions requirements.
Power usage in manufacturing is reduced with ‘soft starts’, low energy LED lighting is installed throughout our premises, and waste timber is recycled for heating purposes.
When onboarding a supply chain partner, they are required to answer a questionnaire detailing sustainability and environment practices, and to commit to reducing their environmental impact.
RTT is aware of its responsibility to the local community through both employment and environmental issues, such as no emission to air or water.
